The plates people come back for

Real plates from real visits. The skewers, the bulalo and the crispy pata are what our Google reviewers talk about most.

Crispy fried milkfish with garlic rice, fried egg and pickled salad

Bangsilog

Crispy fried milkfish with garlic rice, a fried egg and pickled salad, plus vinegar for dipping. A Filipino breakfast that easily does lunch too.

Bowls of bulalo soup with corn and greens, and two hearty stews

Bulalo

Slow-cooked beef shank soup, bone marrow and all, with sweet corn, beans and greens. Big bowl, bigger comfort.

Thick pancit lomi noodle soup topped with quail egg and spring onion

Pancit Lomi

Thick, silky noodle soup with quail eggs, carrot and spring onion. It holds its heat right down to the last spoonful.

Sweet cured pork with garlic rice, fried egg and pickled papaya

Silog plates

Breakfast the Filipino way: garlic rice and a fried egg with your meat, with a bright pickle on the side.

Grilled longganisa sausages with fried egg

Longganisa

Filipino sausage, grilled until it catches, served with a runny fried egg.

Grilled meat on a sizzling plate with mushroom gravy and broccoli

Off the grill

Straight off the grill and onto a sizzling plate, with gravy poured over so it hisses all the way to your table.

Hear it before you see it.

Sisig lands on a hot iron plate, chilli and lemon on top, still spitting when it reaches the table. Pair it with a bowl of bulalo and you've got the full Mabuhay experience.

A quick guide to the board

There aren't many Filipino kitchens on the Gold Coast, so here's what to look for. Not sure? Ask at the counter and we'll point you to a good first plate.

  • Pork BBQ

Sticky, chargrilled pork on a stick. The skewers are the thing reviewers mention most.

  • Sisig

Chopped pork served on a sizzling plate with chilli and a wedge of lemon.

  • Crispy pata

A whole pork knuckle, deep-fried until the skin crackles.

  • Lechon kawali

Pork belly cooked until the crackling shatters.

  • Lechon Cebu

    Roast pork, Cebu style.

  • Lumpia

Filipino spring rolls, golden and crunchy.

  • Sinigang

A sour, tamarind-style soup. The fish version has regulars coming back for it.

  • Caldereta

A rich, tomato-based stew, slow and hearty.

  • Halo halo

The famous Filipino dessert: shaved ice layered with sweet toppings. Halo means mix.
